"Boycott this awful place"

I suppose that once upon a time this place used to be good but now I would not set foot in there. I can only presume the chain is used for money laundering as they seem to do their utmost to put you off going there.

I know that Czech service leaves a lot to be desired, but I assume that 'surly, rude, abusive and unhelpful' are prime requisites on the CVs of the potential staff here.

I have had similar experiences in Olympia, in Ujezd too.

Avoid at all costs.

I havre to agree with most others here; this place is just awful. Because of its location they get mostly tourists and get away with treating them badly, very badly. I will not accept it. After two really awful experiences I will take my business elsewhere - like Celnici (in the same group) - when I have out of town guests.

The service at Kolkovna is not just rude, it's aggressive.
Having attempted to meet some friends there on a Saturday lunchtime, I was treated with utter contempt. I asked to see the manager, and met half man half pig, Lubos Havlicek. He made the waiter seem polite!

It was incredible. I will never return and will encourage anyone looking for a Czech meal in the centre of Prague to go elsewhere. This place does not deserve your custom.

I used to like this place. It was a little expensive, but a good place to bring visitors for proper czech grub. I went there last week with some foreign friends and didn't enjoy it at all.

First off, they had a special holiday menu, which was much shorter and seriously more expensive. I got the koleno which came without bread. After trying to get the waitress's attention for 5 minutes, eventually she took my order for a couple of slices of bread and a coke.

Neither arrived. She said the kitchen hadn't sent out the bread so it wasn't her problem. We had to re-order the coke at the bar.

So in short, I don't plan to go again and wouldn't recommend it.

When I bring guests into town I usually bring them here because of its central location and its relative cleaness and decent enough service...Although I always find it absurd to pay say 200kc for svickova or other czech dishes I still go to Kolkovna for the guests. Now yesterday I went there for a meal with my friends and found a menu that was dated 28.12-1.5 single A4 with few dishes but with the prices serious jacked up svickova was suddenly 280kc a beer was 55kc and a soup was 120kc...this is the point where it becomes unreasonable to eat there and makes some tourist traps cheaper... I hope the menu that I saw was just some temporary new years week menu...

I usually am skeptical of peoples reviwes as we all know each person has a different opinion and view BUT I too 100% agree with all the past reviwes. I just went here and took some outr of town guests and wow... what bad service! We had reservations and were seated by this mean pissed off looking woman who barely smiled at us! It was as though she simply did not want us there at all. The food was decent but luke warm in temperature. Getting a side order of fries was more challenging than expected. The atmosphere was ok... but the nasty rude behavior just turned us all off. Such a shame!

Although it's been more than 3 years ago I was there, I still remember it as the worst restaurant experience in my life. Really. The food was overpriced, and tasted like absolutely nothing (I normally quite like the Czech cuisine). But what really killed me was the service. When our waiter noticed we were foreign, he rolled his eyes. It took them forever to actually bring us our food and when it finally came, the guy actually threw the plates at us. I kid you not! And they wouldn't even let us finish, their greedy little hands clawing at our plates long before we were done. It was almost surreal, like they were doing it on purpose to let foreigners have a taste of "the real Prague" - bad service and all. One in our company complained to the lady at the cash register about our waiter, but she just shrugged, fully aware that we were tourists and would never return. Well, she got half of it right at least! Never going back! If I could rate it 0, I would.

wholeheartedly concur...used to take people here until several bad experiences, the service is aggressively rude, food- poor quality compoered to the other Pilsner Restaurants...I now take people to Olympia by Ujezd, service better, food better...same chain...also the Porterfina Husa resto's by Staropramen are good

Though it used to be better, and perhaps there are days and meals that might be fine, last two times we went there, with visiting friends, the service was grumpy and the food atrocious, in fact leaving us a bit nauseous. I'd give it a pass and find somewhere else for authentic, less expensive and less oily Czech cuisine.

1) I arrive with two friendly little old ladies and sit in the upstairs cafe area. The waitress asks us what we want (drinks and food) and then haughtily sneers at us and tells us to go downstairs for food.
2) Downstairs, most tables are reserved. Waiter rolls his eyes and tells us we can eat if we leave in an hour. Fair enough.
3) Our waiter is a total ass, even for Czech standards. And we are more than polite to him.
4) Soup arrives lukewarm.
5) Food is sub-par.
6) When it's time to pay, my CSOB visa doesn't work in Kolkovna's credit card machine. Another waiter growls and swears at me in Czech, thinking I am just another tourist. I tell him in Czech that I understand what he's saying. He sniffs the air.
7) I get cash and pay with that.
8) I vow to never ever again come within 10 feet of Kolkovna. And I used to like having a beer there now and then.
