- "A nightmare place!!!"

I always wanted to celebrate New Year´s Eve in Prague and when I finally got the chance it turned out a nightmare. My boyfriend and I went to Zlaty Strom Music Club which is quite central and doesn´t look like some dodgy place. We were sitting at the bar when our coats and my handbag were stolen with over 550 euros, phones, camera, and all documents. The bartender was not interested at all, so we turned to the hotel receptionist for help. The guy was so rude and told us it is not his problem and wouldn´t even call the police. The entire staff was extremely unfriendly. Finally when the police arrived they said they couldn´t do anything and left us there. Wondering what to do and how to get home without any money for a cab, any directions how to get to our friends´ house, or a phone so we can call our friends I sat on the stairs in front of the club, being really upset and crying. It is then when one of all 4 or 5 security guys attacked me from behind by grabbing me by the hair and dragging me across the stairs. He only threw me on the ground when my boyfriend stepped forward trying to help. My boyfriend got a punch in the eye and his face was covered in blood. That´s how we walked around Prague on NYE without coats, money or mobile phones, looking for a cab that would agree to take us. The manager was very unhelpful the following day when we returned to the club. Seems they found our coats, no explanations were offered. The police officer´s advice was to leave things like this because there was nothing we could prove. I am utterly disappointed in people´s rudeness and unfriendliness in Prague. Not to mention that none of the random people who witnessed the whole situation stopped and tried to help.

This is a fairly cool place. Located on the walk towards Charles Bridge from Wen square on the left side of the street, you will no doubt see a Plasma screen TV outside playing a 'live feed' of the dancers on the stage, there will also be a billboard with a picture of a golden tree.
As you enter there is a bar/restaurant on street level. There will also be someone collecting money for you to go downstairs, 80CZK as of Feb 2006.
This bar/club is quite typical of many in the Czech Republic that are underground, when you go downstairs there are loads of different rooms to look around, low ceilings, exposed brickwork. It quite unusual when compared to many places in the UK, certainly has more character (how safe it is is another matter....).
At the bottom of the first set of stairs there is a fairly chilled looking area with tables and chairs, where I think they do food [All these tables were empty but reserved when I went in], then to the right and down is a small bar, down again from there are another 2 more rooms, one which is where the live strip shows/performances are, which gets quite busy, and another that has chairs/tables with a few TVs on the walls to watch the performances from the other room, that seemed pretty chilled. From this room is a hallway that leads to a decent sized Club towards the back at the lowest level, complete with a large bar, dance floor and banging dance music.
NOTE: It IS possible to go into this place and not 'find' the club - I had a friend who had been in twice and didnt know it was there till I showed him!
Despite the dancing naked girls this isnt only a place for men, the Club has lots of women in it and I did see quite a few women watching the shows as well. I think the place is frequented by some Czechs as well as tourists, especially in the Club part. Dont be scared ladies is a cool place!
I think that it is table service for drinks but if you get bored of waiting you can go to the bar, but dont expect fast service. As there is a naked women dancing about the beer is expensive and comes in very small glasses, I would not recommed buying one, I was drinking cocktails that cost the same as a beer. Not sure if there is different bar prices in the Club Section.
When I was there at 12.00am someone came on to do a "performance", the "erotic value" was questionable given the circumstances but the comedy value was 100% without doubt!! Any desription here would just not do it justice.
