In about 1500 Vilem of Perštejn had a brewery built beneath the castle in which 120 batches of beer annually - i.e. 1 batch every third day. About 30 beer casks could be filled from one batch. These were made by the brewery´ own cooper - cask-maker. The draff and swill that remained from the brewed beer was used to feed the livestock bred at the Vondrov Farming Estate. The Schwarzenberg Platan Brewery was built in the 1870s in Protivín. The further operation of the Hluboká brewery lacked prospects and was therefore closed in 1882, and the brewery was converted into the Schwarzenberg Forestry Office that served its purpose until 1920 when it was replaced by the town´s school, which almost all the older Hluboká citizens attended, including the present owners.
