A special plant in charge of the pre-stressed concrete engineering structures (Speciální závod pro inženýrské konstrukce z predpjatého betonu) was set up under the state-owned company called Stavby silnic a železnic on Jan. 1, 1953. Following the company's reorganization, its Plant 02 took part in some significant transport route construction and bridge development projects. Under its new name Stavby mostu Praha the enterprise became independent on Apr. 1, 1992, having been a joint-stock company since May 5, 1992. The first year of the new millennium saw the company renamed to SMP CONSTRUCTION, a.s., as decided by its Board of Directors. On August 1, 2005 transformation of company SMP CONSTRUCTION, a.s. to SMP CZ,a.s. Currently, the company ranks itself among fifteen leading corporations in the Czech Republic, as it is obvious from the statistics. The main shareholder of SMP CZ, a.s. is the VINCI Group of the Construction Division, the section called Filiales Internationales. The vital goal is still to keep the leading position in the bridge building industry.
