Alongside Charles University, the Týn School and later the Recek College called Collegium Sanctissimae Mariae were also counted among the most important institutions in the history of education in the Old Town of Prague. The present Týn School maintains the tradition of its historical predecessor, the Týn School was founded in 13th century, as well as the present Recek College follows the tradition of the original Recek College denominated Collegium Sanctissimae Mariae in 1438. Just as in past times, the Týn School organizes contemporaneously both practical studies of early vocal and instrumental music and choir conducting of church music and it also takes care of ecclesiastical cultural monuments. This school is now working with the Musical Science Institute from the Philosophical Faculty of the Charles University, with the Institute of Arts History, the Department of Musical Education and the Fine Arts Department of the Pedagogical Faculty of the Charles University. At present the Týn School is housed in a former Servite Monastery by St. Michael Church. The representative premises of the school are in the former library hall with plastering and fresco decorations from the middle of 18th century.
