Can you imagine a movie theatre at which the emergency exits were locked? They are here. Big planks of wood secure the top and bottom exits to make sure paying and potential non paying customers can only go through the middle. This place used to be a total dump and they revamped the enterance in a very pleasant deco style. They also repainted the court yard, (well if you count whitewash as repainted) and kept the outdoor bar area open to the sky Gods. Inside there is a bar, that is clean. Pity, the bathrooms are not clean at all. Most of the customers are the Bohemian crowd, full of tatoos and facial piercings. BTW, WHEN THE HELL DID SHRAPNEL BECOME A FASHION STATEMENT!?!?? The kino claims to be popcorn free, but still has plenty of commercials before each film. Worst of all, the bar is right beside the theatre, and one can easily hear the klinking of glass and voices through the paper thin walls. At least the sound system is not overly loud, but still to hear outside noises is a bother. Overall, it really isnt such a bad place, but clearly, this is for the lower class customers.

While Ponrepo might be the most sophisticated cinema in Prague, all low-cost, not advertising, run by the National Film Archives and Palace Cinemas the big anonymous popcorn cinema with good sound and air-condition, Aero is a hidden gem you will fall in love with instantly. It is run by true film enthusiasts (Aerofilms has another, slightly more-mainstream cinema in the very centre of Prague, Svetozor) and you can totally tell by their careful film choices, playful festivals, ranging from the Shockproof festival to Metropolitan Opera, cute short films, occasionally also introductions and discussions with the directors. Each month, there is a Blind Date with Aero event - you do not pay anything in advance as you haven't got the slightest idea what they're about to show, and after the movie it is up to you how much you liked it. If you have seen it already, you get a free beer. The bar-cafe is lovely, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. Welcome to Zizkov.
