I went to the Masala Pod karlovem for unlimited buffet, and I tried the fish moily and chicken chatinad and other dishes from main course, and banana fritters in dessert and I can definitely say that the food quality was absolutely great for such a great price of 110 Kc.

The menu includes an appetizing array of signature Indian dishes as well as vegetarian options and an extensive selection of the Tandoori meals. We were ther in the evening in the last weekend and there was quite full, so it is good to have a reservation made before during the weekend. I had great lamb palak and my friend he ordered their chicken vindaloo which I tasted and was one of the best I have ever eaten. We finalized the evening with icecream served in funny bucket, but was very plesant end of this dinner. I can recommend this restaurant if you want just go somewhere for great meal or also make a special romantic eventing with your partner. We were both very happy about this choice and that also why I decided to write this revue here... Because they deserve it for our nice times. ...

If you're craving Indian in Prague, then helas, you don't have too many options. After all, this isn't the UK.

I've been to Masala three times over the past year, twice to the original location (Prague 1) and once to their newer location. Having always ordered a vast array of dishes, I've never been unhappy as the food they serve always subdues my craving. The richness in smell and flavor is what I most enjoy about their cuisine (or should I say Indian cuisine in general ;-)

I can't give an opinion about the service as I've always picked up in order to enjoy at home, but the prices will make your wallet feel lighter guaranteed. It's the price to pay for getting carried away with deliciousness!

Unusually tiny portions, unfriendly staff... Expect to pay more than average for Indian cuisine. The food is very spice-filled and tasty, but expect a small portion in a little bowl, made up mostly of filler (potatoes!), and very little meat or what have you. I received just three (!) little bites of meat in my dish, the rest was frickin potatoe... Cheapskates. Oh, and the standard accompanying rice? huh-uh. That's 65 kc extra! Customary complimentary naan bread? No Way! That's another 60 kc. Oh, and make certain you feel pressured to order an expensive drink. Even the standard cup of kava is 65 kc!.

All in all, expect to pay for everything except silverware, unless that's changed too, and if you decide not to follow the recommendation to add rice to your meal, you could end up staring at a small soup-bowl for 14 dollars, filled almost entirely with potatoes, and end up leaving a bit hungry and perplexed. This was supposed to be a good restaurant!

As I had heard, Masala is quite spicy and pretty tasty- but unfortunately not friendly (bad day, big-waitress?), with disproportionately under-sized meals, and -a bit like a Prague cliche- graced with loud boisterous drunken AmericanEnglish-speaking touristy types. Thumbs down. Never again Masala! I've had much much better...

First of I should classify this review, I'm reviewing the restaurant on Manesova and have been there 4 times and had take-away another 4 times from there in the past 9 months. I'm in no way connected to the restaurant, other than being a regular customer.

I saw a few very critical reviews which all seemed to lack any detail and look very suspicious so felt it was fair to write an honest review.

The food it great, everytime we've eaten there or from there it has been nothing less than high quality. I recommend the Chicken Kadhai for anyone looking for a tomato based medium spiced curry. Myself and my girlfriend have both taken friends and family there and the service has always been very good and far better than a lot of Czech restaurants. It's easily comparable to lots of Indian restaurants in the UK, but the main meals are around half the price and yet of the same quality. Bare in mind though that they charge for the plastic containers if you order takeaway which is a little annoying.

We go here almost every month, and have never been disappointed. I usually go for a vindaloo, which I order (and they deliver) extra hot, while Her Indoors gets a methi (or fenugreek).

I like a garlic or butter nan with my Ruby, and they always come hot and fresh.

Highly recommended - the best cuzzah in Prazzah by far.

Having moved to Prague from Birmingham, most likely the home of the best "Anglified" curry, I was not expecting to find a curry house that would serve food like the curry back home.

Masala is great - I have been a few times now, and have ordered the perennial Butter Chicken, Chicken Methi (more than once - highly recommend!) and Lamb Saagwala and all three are cooked in the style I love, always hot and fresh and taste great. I see that one comment below said the dish they ordered was tasteless.. but was a korma! Don't know what you were expecting from the mildest, blandest (quite deliberately) dish on the menu but sounds to me like you got what you ordered... :s The garlic naans are simply fantastic - nice and buttery, fresh and not over-flavoured with the garlic. The bread is soo soft is just melts! I honestly think I have not had a better naan! :D The rice portions you get are just right as well, I usually end up wasting half of it or just sharing.

The popadoms are slightly different to what I am used to - they are drier and cooked more than the flash-fry ones I had back in the UK, and they are curled up into a roll. This makes dipping into their rather unusual raita sauce difficult. They don't taste bad but I wouldn't go mad for them.

The onion bhajis are MASSIVE and you get four per portion, so they are well worth sharing. They come with the usual side salad of cabbage, which isn't the best accompaniment but the sheer size of the bhajis means its unlikely you will even want to eat the cabbage!!

Beer is the usual Gambrinus, which I think goes quite well with curry despite not being my usual beer of choice. The wine can be expensive. Another point is that we have never had a problem getting a table, pre-booking or just turning up and the staff seem friendly. I'd highly recommend Masala for Brits missing their curry! :D

The last time I went to Masala was a good six months ago. I was there last night with a friend. The food was excellent as it was before. We ordered Lamb vindaloo and Chicken Madras. Both were ordered hot and they came out perfect. Garlic naan had good flavour and just melted with the morsels. Mango Lassi was fantastic. Masala stays my most preferred Indian restaurant in Prague. The service and the casual style is just a bonus.

I have been meaning to write a review for this restaurant since our take away from there a couple of Fridays ago. We also had great expectations of this place from the reviews on expats, but when the food arrive after an hour later and expensive delivery service, it was a great disappointment. My husband who usually eats anything, was less than impressed and did not finish the meal. We had lamb rogan josh, which was more like a lamb stew (or even worse) was very watered down and no tomatoes. We also had Chicken korma and Tandoori chicken, both very disappointing and tastless. Their garlic naan was probably the only thing that was edible. It makes me wander if the reviews on here are from family members. Will definitely not order from here again.

Masala is becoming a bit of a regular haunt for me, and I am not going to review it every time I go, but I have to say how disappointed I was with the service on my most recent visit.

The food was excellent, as always, and the owner was working hard, but she was let down severely by her sullen, lazy, and could I say thick (?), waitress.

I just hope that she may have been given her P45 by the time I go there again next week.

We had great expectations for this place, because it is constantly advertised here on expats as well as in the Prague Dining Guide, unfortunately our experience was far from what we had expected. The food was poorly seasoned and badly served. The lentils soup was by far the worst I've ever had. For the main course I ordered the Prawn Biryani which was also poorly season and for 265kc I definitely expected more than 5 prawns and a bunch of rice with carrot and no taste whatsoever. My friend ordered the chicken vindaloo which he said it was good, a bit too sour, but overall good. The service was ok although the waitress took her time to come and ask us for the drinks. I think we will not go back to this place or recommend it, it is expensive (what we tried was not worth the price) plus instead of little and cozzy, it is crowded, loud and terribly smoky (more than the average place here).

Good Indian food but the wait time for food was long, and the food that came was not even enough for me if I was a child. So, I finished it quickly and was still not satiated and then I was wondering whether to give another order and wait for another hour or to go home half hungry. I took the latter option.
Moreover, the prices were not attractive. I mean, it is good food, its not gold.
Good for people who find Indian food exotic and want to try. But not for people for whom Indian food is 'their' own food. You don't want to eat your daily meal at exotic prices.

I returned to Masala for the first time in nearly six months yesterday, and I am sure that it was even better than I remembered it. My only previous complaint was the size of the portions, which had been slightly on the small side the previous times I had visited, but yesterday the portions were much bigger.

I ordered the chicken vindaloo and my friend the chicken madras, both of which were spicy enough for our seasoned palates. As a starter we had onion bhajis and pakoras, and it was all washed down with draught gambrinus.

It was like being in the Aagrah in Skipton, and I can think of no higher compliment than that.

I have tried different places to get some decent Indian food in Prague. And the results have been really discouraging. The one below Bombay was decent but had too much oil in everything. So I gave up and resigned to the fact that I will only get my Indian food fix when I travel to US or London.
On my friend's insistence I went to Masala for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The appetizer and the main courses were excellent. The bread delicious. The gravy in the main course was well balanced, spicy but not hot.
I will definitely go back there. Reservation recommended.

I recommend this cozy little place for those in need of their rice and curry fix. I had the mango lasse, which in and of itself was fulfilling. Be warned that if you are not that hungry, having a lasse could fill you up pretty quickly and leave no room for the main course. For the main course I had lamb madras which I ordered extra spicey with a side of white rice. The selection was good though it did not come out as spicey as I wanted it to be.Still I give this establishment high marks and definitely plan on being a regular.

We have eaten at Masala many times. The food is consistently delicious, hot and fresh, with just the right amount of spice. The owner is very accommodating and will serve every dish to your liking. When we order take-away, it is still hot by the time we get it home (3 tram stops) and we are always satisfied with our order. Masala is definitely the best Indian restaurant in Vinohrady, and one of the best in Prague.

Went to Masala yesterday night with a group of 8. The service was good and very friendly. The waiter regularly come to see if we needed anything else. The food was also very nice. Some of us chose for the spicy dishes which are probably a bit too spicy for us Europeans, but personally I had a dish that was not spicy at all and was very nice. I believe in general everyone enjoyed their food very much. We only took a main course with rice and naan. The price was also fine. Yes you pay separately for the rice and the naan but if you share it it's totally fine. The portions seem small indeed but once I finished I definitely had enough. I paid about 340 kr. for the main dish and 2 beers. I will definitely go back here and reccommend it to anyone who likes indian food.

Masala. This place is a little (very little) piece of perfection. The curries are spicy and very tasty, and the wait staff are happy to modify the dishes for the 'less Czech' palates. The service is good although the crazy small bottles of Bon Aqua served with vindaloo curries grates a little.

The dishes are not cheap although for the quality the meals are still reasonable. I recently paid 600kc for lunch for two which included a starter to share, 2 mains, rice, naan bread and non alcoholic drinks.

One thing which i do think is unfair, is the notion that the portions are small. They are smaller than they used to be, this is true, but seriously, i have never left this place hungry. I would order one portion of rice and one naan bread between two. Its generous.

They serve an excellent Macedonian red wine too (seriously). The CabSav is a bargain at about 300kc.

The only slight criticism i have is about the lamb dishes. The lamb here (in the CR) is poor. Stringy and tasteless. Its not worth the price rise from the chicken based dishes. Although Bobby (the owner) assures me its NZ lamb, i dunno, i just think the chicken is where the value is at.

Overall this place is a little gem. In the summer time I particularly like to order the Chicken Vindaloo and a naan, walk up to the beer garden and have dinner there with a cold pivo. It takes the edge of a long day at the office and its just another reason i can wait for summer to roll around!

Masala has good quality....BUT there seem to be small portions of meat with the curries. I have noticed this recently. Why is this..? The food and service is generally good....BUT the portions of meat are too little. I am always left with rice and no curry (meat) to eat with the rice. Of course, the curry sauce is great and there is always LOTS of it....BUT only just a few pieces of meat....Why is that..? Are Masala trying to save their money by serving a smaller number of chicken/lamb pieces in their curries...?? There should be quality AND QUANTITY in the food.....

Having read such good reviews for this new restaurant and in the hope of finding a decent Indian at last, I couldnt resist giving this place a try. Big dissapointment!
After being seated we were presented with a home made 'digestif" and a popadom. The 'digestif" looked like water that someone had washed their dirty socks in and had various ufo's floating in it. One quick sip and that was enough to convince me that drinking all of this would leave you feeling so bad it wouldnt matter what the food was like.
Almost forgot the popadom--they are made in the morning so unless you like Indian for breakfast expect the popadom to be stale and soggy. I like mine warm and crispy. The pickle tray was interesting. It consisted of a bowl of whole pickled onions! I guess they believe the customer should decide how they like their onions chopped.

Nan bread was ok. Main dishes were dissapointing. The tender lamb was as tough as goat and the sauce it was served in was tasteless and watery. Same for the chicken dish.

Decor--definately not Indian but who cares as long as the food is good, unfortunately it wasnt.

Price-seemed expensive for what was served up.

Bobby the owner---seemed a nice enough guy, but thats not enough to get me back.

yeah the herbal drink you can pass on it tastes like a weird flavoured beef boullion!

also the baji and samosas needed some sauce or chutney to go with them but otherwise, perfect.

everything was really tasty, look forward to going back.

My girlfriend had a question about a recommendation, and the cook came out and talked to her and gave her recommendations -- very classy. Chicken tikka was good enough to be the main course. Presentation was excellent, brought out on a sizzling iron plate. I was asked if i would like my Rogan hot, med or mild and it was done as hot as hot as i anticipated so full marks.

Naan was as good as any other Indian place in Prague but very well presented in those wicker baskets. Service was fantastic as everyone else has mentioned.

As a whole, the evening was wonderful.

As everyone has mentioned, the service here is friendly. The interior is homely, I think it's a left over from the old restaurant as it feels more like Montenegro than Mumbai. But it feels quite comfortable and intimate.

The menu is small but I find that more reassuring as it means what they do do is more likely to be done well. We had quite a wait for our food but all is forgiven as it came with smiles and apologies.

The waitress asked us how hot we would like our dishes and warned us that they were English hot rather than czech hot - so full marks for choice. I tried my friends 'medium' vindaloo and it was divine. It was nice to be able to appreciate the flavours of the dish without being overpowered by a flaming tongue. I had the rogan josh which I probably should have ordered on the hotter side, but it was still very tasty.

I liked the onion bhagi, which was actually presented more like onion rings, but felt it could have done with a little more flavour or perhaps a spicy dip. The palak paneer was the best i have tasted anywhere and is well flavoured as opposed to being the frozen spinach mush you are usually presented with. However, they could have been a little more generous on the cheese.

There is no beef on the menu but the lamb and seafood choices were interesting.

If you only order one thing here make sure it is the ice cream, which is home made. Unbelieveable and something I would certainly come back for. The pistacio one tastes a little like Burfi.

You can smoke but only by the bar, which is probably a good thing as it is a small place.

All in all a great little place with great food and great service. While it wasn't the 'absolute best' indian food i've had in Prague, it was damn near close to it. I think it could be a winner in the near future.

I look forward to trying other dishes on their menu in the near future. I went there with a friend who was born in (and spent a great deal of time in) India and she gave it the thumbs up too.

I have been to most of the Indian restaurants in Prague, and this is now my favourite.

The manger (Bobby) was extremely attentive, and very pleasant. Perhaps most importantly, he appears to care deeply that you are enjoying your meal, and is very receptive to suggestions for improvement.

We went as a group of five, and all of us felt the highlights were the starters, which are particularly yummy: try the mixed platters, and also the superb lentil soup.

The breads were - well - pretty standard - but brought out in wicker baskets that I wanted to hide in my bag and take home. Actually, the waitress caught me eyeing one up, and whipped it away with a smile.

The main courses were good - we only had minor quibbles - but not as outstanding as the starters. If they has made the main course a bit tastier, this would have been a 10 out of 10.

Finally, if you are offered the "herbal drink" that "opens your taste buds" - well, all I can say is, ask for a beer instead :-)

In terms of prices, we had (on average) three courses each, plus two beers each, and some had coffees too. The total cost for five was 1900Kc - to which we added 300Kc tip.

Oh - finally - I walked past the place a couple of times trying to find it - since it is in what used to be Modra Reka and they still have one of the Modra Reka signs outside, which is a bit confusing.

Overall, highly recommended.
