It is so unique interior and ambiance, distinctive international cuisine, attentive service, and so much more. Big dining room with a separate non-smoking room plus their completely non-smoking bistro.
Solid hand-made tables covered with white linen runners, surrounded with comfy leather chairs,, attention to detail lightening and so on. You have to see it to believe it.
What would be most appropriate to say about their food? Many have tried - but have never come close to Vermeers food quality. This restaurant has no competition in Prague. All the dishes we´ve tried so far where extremely good presented and tasted even better - AWESOME. More than 10 different breakfasts, even more sandwiches - real deal, not a fast-food style, but a traditional home-made stars.
After 2 years and eating all the c*** that most of the Prague restaurants provide, we finally got our place where to eat a real home made meal. We don´t mind to wait 20 - 30 min. actually that “waiting” somehow promises will get a real food made to order, not some leftovers or whatever.
It is in our neighborhood and we go there at list ones per day. Sundays we “relocate” to Vermeer for all you can eat buffet, a real Sunday Brunch.

I was amazed at the negative publicity that Vermeers has received on this site as my previous two visits had been very enjoyable. I decided that perhaps I had visited here earlier when they had two exceptional days and that perhaps the service, food and atmosphere was normally at a low standard. However on the third visit with my girlfriend I found it to be even better than the first two visits! The food was delicious, it was prepared in a timely manner from the starter right through to the dessert. The drinks kept coming and as soon as I was finished it seemed that the waiter was right there to ask if we wanted more. The atmosphere was enjoyable as was the music which was of a type and at a level that we could still have a decent conversation. Although everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect this, I believe that Vermeers has received some unwanted negative publicity. Regardless, I will continue to visit this establishment in the future more often as it is a place I truly enjoy. The only reason I've given it 9 and not 10 was due to the smoker sitting near me which has no bearing on the restaurant itself. Well done Vermeers.

I went to Vermeer again. A bit better this time: some big band music on the stereo made the place seem a little less gloomy and more like a quaint French/Belgian cafe (which I assume is the point). Service was better - the owner and the waiter buzzing around. The food was average - again. The bread on the Reuben was soggy and the cole slaw was terrible. And what is with the side salad of (too many) red onions and peppers served on the plate with many of the sandwiches? Eventually, George Michael was back on the stereo - such sad, melancholy music really makes the atmosphere in the restaurant much colder. The dessert "special" of the evening - carrot cake - was pretty tasteless. I won't be going back - this is the third time I've been there, and I have been disappointed every time. Those that like this place: what are you comparing it too? Are your standards so low that you consider Vermeer a good restaurant? From what I've sampled on the menu, I can't say anything stands out as above average compared to other places in the same price range:
Better Reuben: Hilton (more expensive, but far better than Vemeer's - and edible cole slaw, too)
Better Steak: almost anywhere (in particular, La Casa Argentina, Belle Epoch, Sahara Cafe)
Better Italian: Chez Marcel; Ambiente; Grosetto, others
Better salads: Potrefená husa
(the best burger in town, by the way, is at golf club Hodkovicky...)
Like I said before: I give it six months, unless enough expats find this place charming because the owner is friendly with them, they feel the place is "theirs", and they're willing to put up with below average food.

I've eaten here several times and am amazed at the roller-coaster ride of reviews on this site.
I've had mostly good things to say about the place, aside from a few teething problems when they had just opened (special orders forgotten, cold inside sometimes, neither tasty nor reasonably priced beer on tap though I guess that's a long-term problem).
I would personally appreciate WiFi here; the owner says it's on its way and that he'd like it working too...
The food? I'm not a fan of their burger at all, sadly (I LOVE burgers), it has those same weird spices as some other places in town. Give me nice unadulterated beef any day. The Reuben, club sandwich and the chicken tikka are great and the chips [as long as chef remembers to cook them long enough] are also top-notch.
The beer on tap is not the best and is overpriced, but there are plenty of places in this town to get your fill of that...
I'd order small side-salads a lot. A shame they only seem to serve salads that cost as much (and are as big) as the starters; half-size, half-price portions, please?
Desserts have been great; cheesecake and carrotcake; yummy.
Would I go again? In a heartbeat. But I am serious about my above "suggestions"; things can get better.

My take:
Pros:
- The menu is quite varied, including breakfast, but...
Cons:
- The service is dreadful.
- The bathrooms smell.
- It takes ages to receive your food.
- There are three small rooms in the indoor dining area, which is in a cellar - not very warm and inviting, poor sightlines, and a very cramped feel to it; the tables look nice, but are not very functional for sitting - the legs of the table are big and awkward.
- The choice of music is depressing and doesn't improve the atmosphere.
- The food itself is average. I have been there twice. The first time, my Reuben was burned and the fries were cold. The second time I had French onion soup - with no onions, only Worchester sauce and a bay leaf - and the fillet, which was average, at best.
There other places in this town, even in Prague 2/3, that have better food and better service.
I'd give this place six months before it goes out of business.

I have to agree with Jen on a number of points. Went there with my partner for luch and have to say was very dissapointed. Service wasnt up to much, the place lacked atmosphere, and it was freezing cold. Management and waiter spent most of the time seated at a table near the bar having a smoking contest.
Food was reasonable but not worthy of a return visit. Bread was stale, could have been the left overs from the Last Supper.
As far as the facilities are concerned, I suggest if any ladies decide to visit, do not go to the toilet. Enough said.

We went there on Thursday night and thought the place was great. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The waiter served us without delay and the owner even stopped by the table to talk and ask us if we needed a recommendation.
I heard all this talk about the great bacon cheeseburgers so I had to give it a try. Needless to say I was not disappointed. My fiancee ordered BLT and was very pleased with it.
Our only issue with this restaurant is the fact we were willing to spend more money that night if they had wine by the glass on the menu.
We ordered one bottle with dinner, but would have loved to stay a little longer over another glass of wine. Maybe next time....
Regardless we will be back to try some of the other menu items and the cheesecake.

So, after reading all the hype about Vermeer, we decided to go check it out today for lunch. Husband had actually been last weekend and said the food was good, service a little slow. We got there, sat down, were warmly welcomed, ordered drinks, perused the menu. (the place was freezing cold, BTW) In the meantime, two other people showed up (separately), sat down and were also welcomed. After about 10 minutes we ordered our food. 10 minutes later, the waiter came back to reconfirm our orders (!!). Another 10-15 minutes go by. The other waiter comes to inform us that there's no veggie soup today, would the onion soup be ok? We said fine. In the meantime, the two people who came in after us had already received their food.....Another 10 minutes and a bowl of soup comes out. By this time, my husband is starting to get rather peeved, the children are hungry. We stopped one of the waiters, who said, "Two more minutes". We stopped the other waiter going by to complain about the wait, to which he said that "because everything's made to order, it takes 30-40 minutes" - to which husband replied - "so why did those guys get their food in about 15 minutes AND have finished eating and we've still got nothing?" No apologies. After about another 5 minutes, we had enough, asked for the bill and left.
Looked like the owners were sitting at the corner table, too.
The cook might be good, but the management is amateur. They might have the best burgers in the city, but I'm not willing to wait to find out.
