Vacancy description

The Network Capacity Analyst will be responsible for providing the network capacity service for one of our clients. He will be responsible for assessing applications or business changes impact to the client’s global network environment.

The Network Capacity Analyst will capture requirements and assess the provided information about a new project (e.g. new applications, changes to existing applications, network topology changes) and will produce the impact analysis report. This includes understanding the design architecture and operating limits of data networks (including VoIP) in addition to practical application of statistical techniques, use of test and measurement equipment, application profiling and being fully aware of the need to safeguard sensitive customer information at all times.

Responsibilities:

Determine project scope and requirements, evaluate them to be able to identify areas and the scope for the network capacity assessment

Produce a document describing the scope of the work to be carried out, including time and resource requirements

Apply statistical analysis on potential network impacts, measure performance and capacity in pre-production environments, model impacts against existing network utilization and performance

Work with business analyst to establish application user profiles, user processes, response time expectations, transaction metrics etc.

Capture application data flows (using Sniffer/Wireshark tools) to create an “application profile”

Carry out an analysis providing an impact assessment of network capacity and performance

Produce the assessment report document with clearly documented recommendations in accordance with standards

Carry out post implementation analysis to ascertain the actual impact of implementation and accuracy of assessment

Provide Capacity Manager with an overview of requirements and selected approach to the analysis for each assessment and provide regular progress updates

Job Requirements:

Solid voice and data network experience – desirable 2+ years hands-on experience

Good working knowledge and experience using network management tools (e.g. Zenoss, e-Health, InfoVista, etc.)

Solid understanding of the Capacity & Performance Management in large network environments

Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of business requirements and how they translate into network capacity implications

Ability to clearly document an understanding of the network infrastructure, data flows (routing and application flows) and the impact of the traffic

Ability to propose and review technical solutions within scope of the Capacity Management function to meet business requirements

Analytical skills with the ability to articulate why agreed methodologies are applied and how conclusions are reached using the systems & tools available

Solid understanding of design architecture and operating limits of data networks in addition to practical application of statistical techniques and use of test and measurement equipment
