We are looking for temporary part- and full-time employees for the CERGE-EI Academic Skills Center (www.cerge-ei.cz/phd-program/academic-skills-center). We are looking to hire one or more people on a part- or full-time basis for up to one academic year. Employment opportunities beyond the 2012–2013 academic year are possible.
CERGE-EI is a non-profit institution of higher learning affiliated with Charles University in Prague, the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, a Czech CERGE-EI Foundation, and a U.S. CERGE-EI Foundation. We run a Czech-accredited PhD program in Economics and have a permanent charter from the New York State Board of Regents to conduct PhD and MA programs in Economics and an MA program in Applied Economics (MAE). All of our programs are entirely in English and are designed on a U.S. model of university education in Economics.
The Academic Skills Center (ASC) at CERGE-EI provides a number of services to CERGE-EI students, faculty, and staff, and participates in institutional outreach and other projects. The core of the Center’s activities adds professional, Economics-specific language and research skills instruction and consultation to CERGE-EI educational programs. ASC faculty have outstanding educational qualifications and a long history of working with Economists on their texts and presentations. Our courses and consultations are geared towards second-language learners, but virtually all of what we teach is beneficial also for native speakers. In addition, ASC professors edit and proofread institutional publications such as dissertations and working papers. The ASC is also partially responsible for training teachers for CERGE-EI outreach programs.
We are looking to fill the following roles:
• Teaching doctoral-level English academic writing courses.
• Teaching doctoral-level English academic presentation skills courses.
• Teaching Applied English Skills courses in our Applied Economics (MAE) program.
• Training student teachers of Economics in the principles and practice of teaching at the university undergraduate level.
• Coordinating the student teacher program and ensuring the quality of teaching provided.
Qualifications required or preferred:
For teaching positions in the PhD program:
• Masters degree in TEFL, TESL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field required.
• Minimum two years of university teaching experience required.
• Native speaker of English preferred.
• Experience editing/proofreading academic texts preferred.
For teaching positions in the MAE program:
• Masters degree in TEFL, TESL, Applied Linguistics, Education, Economics, Business, or related field strongly preferred.
• Bachelors degree required.
• Experience teaching or working in a business/corporate environment preferred.
• Two years of university teaching experience preferred.
For teacher training positions:
• Masters degree in a relevant field required.
• Two years of university teaching experience in a “western”, English-language environment required.
• Experience in teacher training preferred.
