Updated: Rock for People - Day 2
Welcome to Rock for People 2011!
I can’t believe it’s been a whole year! The start of July can only mean
one thing: Rock Fest time! Last year’s festival was pretty difficult to
follow. Big names like Skunk Anansie, Muse and Suicidal Tendencies all
graced the stages! But the organizers have done it again and come up
with an equally great selection of bands for this year’s line-up. Jimmy
Eat World, Kate Nash, The Streets, Kele, Skyline, Asian Dub Foundation
and Primus to name but a few! The Rock fest is shaping up to be a great
couple of days of high quality music! There’s always plenty to see and
do, the festival park really is a super place to enjoy music and get
into the festival spirit.
Last year was my first Rock for People and I totally enjoyed the whole
thing. Bands like The Prodigy absolutely took the stage by storm, much
to the pleasure of the adoring crowd. That being said, it’s also
pleasing to see that the organizers have partnered established acts
alongside lesser known names. It’s always good to check for the
up-and-coming names! Last year was pretty much perfect in my opinion,
good music, weather, food and non-musical activities from day one! The
line up started with an introduction to the predominately Czech based
bands, fresh homegrown music for the masses to enjoy.
The non-musical activities on offer were also pretty impressive:
helicopter rides, soap slides, and sky dining were all on offer,
providing a well-rounded experience for the Rock Fest-goers. Children
were also considered with a supervised ‘Kids Corner’, perfect for the
young rockers. A wide selection of food and drink is available at the
festival, well-priced and at a high quality making sure that the
fun-filled days aren’t without sustenance! My favorite was definitely
the curry spot.
This year I’m really looking forward to seeing Kele. His music is
exciting and I have heard that his live show is really powerful. The
Streets are also a must. Mike Skinner is a genius and his music reflects
it! Their live show shouldn’t be missed. Mike brings his unique brand
of banter and wit to every performance, so don’t miss out!
Word on the web is that the weather’s not going to be too hot for the
next few days. But don’t let that dampen your spirits. There’s great
music, food, and activities. Let’s put on our rain Macs and have a
little dance shall we!
