Pizzerias in Prague

Pass the Pizza: An overview of Prague options

Written by: Written by Jacy Meyer

Pepperoni, mushrooms, anchovies? Pizzas are a crowd-pleasing favorite; at home or take-away. Looking for a place nearby to grab a pie? We´ve rounded up a small selection of pizzerias by neighborhood. We´ve focused on restaurants whose main draw is pizza; not Italian joints. Missed your favorite? Share it with us by leaving a comment below. Dig in!

Prague 1:
A perennial favorite, Ambiente Pizza Nuovo (www.ambi.cz) consistently is recommended when looking for good pizza. Not the cheapest of places, but the décor is lovely; staff accommodating and they offer all-you-can-eat. Also gets bonus points for its kid-friendliness. Nearby is Giallo Rossa (www.giallorossa.cz, currently under construction.) Pizzeria Donna (pizzadonna.cz) is a good one close to Old Town Square. They have a small non-smoking section in the back and a second location on Perlová. Rugantino (www.rugantino.cz) is also convenient to Old Town Square; with two Prague 1 locations. Not the cheapest option, but they have a good number of meat-free pizzas. Kmotra, (www.kmotra.cz) by the National Theater, also rates near the top. Pizzas (more than 30 on offer) are baked in a traditional wood oven. Modrá zahrada (Národní 37) is favored for its central location, fair prices and decent pies. The Green Tomato (www.greentomato.cz) has an okay pizza menu; but interesting interior and it´s very central on Jindřišská. Rustica (www.rustica.cz) is a cozy, brick-lined spot that also has its own brick oven. A good variety of pies; plus seven “white” pizzas; ones without tomato sauce. A pricy option is Pepe Nero (www.pepe-nero.net) on Bílkova. Over on the Malá Strana side; we are including St. Nicholas Café (Tržiště 10.) It doesn´t meet our “primarily pizza” criteria, however too many people have mentioned it for us to ignore it. Also over here is Carmelita (www.restauracecarmelita.cz.)

Prague 2:
One of the most popular Prague 2 pizzerias (and one of the best in the city according to some) is Grosseto (www.grosseto.cz.) They also have locations at Dejvice; Brumlovka in Prague 4 and Průhonice. Pizzeria Venezia is big, air-conditioned and has a non-smoking section. The also offer delivery from their list of more than 30 pizzas. Down on Karlovo nám you´ll find Pizzeria di Carlo (www.dicarlo.cz;) and heading towards Vyšehrad, stop in at Vyšehradská 9 for the cozy out-of-the-way Cartello Alto Pizzeria. Fresco Vento (www.frescovento.cz) is down by the river and offers an interesting pizza menu and dimly lit dining room.

Prague 3:
Pizzeria Sorrento (www.pizzeria-sorrento.cz) serves up some good pies and Pizzeria Dalí (Slezská 107) has had some good recommendations as well. Einstein (www.pizza-einstein.cz,) which some people highly do not recommend, has a Prague 3 locale. Buon Giorno (www.pizzabg.cz) is a small rustic place with a ton of pizzas. Persona (www.persona-pizza.cz) is stuffed with tables; but offers 25% off their pizzas on Saturdays and Sundays.

Prague 4:
Your best bet here is probably the Pizzeria di Carlo (www.dicarlo.cz) branch on Na Pankráci or Pizzeria Trappola (www.pankrac.trappola.cz) which has a good-sized dining room, nice terrace and gets packed at lunch. Note the strange seagulls hanging from the ceiling. Palatino (www.palatino-cz.com) is an upscale place with a nice terrace. They also have Prague 2 and Prague 5 locations. Over in Nusle, Baretta (www.baretta.cz) is a friendly place with a unique pizza menu. Also down here is Pizza West (www.pizzawest.cz.) Decent pizzas and well-known for their delivery.

Prague 5:
Corleone
(www.corleone.cz) is a popular pizza/mob decorated joint with decent pies. There´s a big Pizza Coloseum (www.pizzacoloseum.cz) close to the Anděl metro station. Pizza Coloseum has a variety of locations inlcuding Vodičkova 32 and Budějovická 64. Fantozzi (www.pizzeria-fantozzi.cz) is a newer restaurant with cozy spots for tables; versus a big dining room space. Pizzeria Cihelna (www.pizzerie-cihelna.net) serves up some decent priced pies; while out in Radotín, pop into Campitello (www.campitello.wz.cz.) Rustic interior with a children´s corner, plus playground area outside.

Prague 6:
Canzone
(www.canzone.cz) has the usual suspects covered near Dejvice, while Francesco (www.pizzeriafrancesco.cz,) another neighborhood joint, is small; in both pizza menu and seating. Over in Břenov, La Contrada (www.contrada.cz) serves pies in a spacious and lovely interior. Tibino (www.pizza-tibino.cz) is a bit hidden; but has decent prices and a small outdoor seating area.

Prague 7:
Flamengo´s (Dukelských hrdinů 20) brick oven makes this a fav of many a pizza fan. Lucky Luciano´s (www.luckyluciano.cz) is indeed named after the mobster; the menu contains his bio and photos. Prices might be a bit high for the location. Riccardo (www.riccardo.cz) has a big outdoor seating area on Milady Horákové.

Prague 8:
Karlín is home to the upscale Cihelna La Familia (www.cihelna-lafamilia.cz.) they have a creative pizza list; and if you take-away, it´s 10% off. Ládví dwellers can nosh at Pizzeria Giovanni (www.pizzeriagiovanni.cz.) In Troja, pay a visit to Rotella (www.pizzarotella.cz) for their classy interior and decent sized pizza list. Aria (www.pizzeria-aria.cz) will be music to your pizza taste buds with their more than 20 pizzas at very good prices. Carllino (www.carllino.cz) is a brother pizzeria to Prague 5´s Corleone.

Just looking to pick-up a couple slices? Pizza Express (www.pizza-express.cz) has locations at Můstek, Mostecká and Anděl. Sbarro has a couple of locations. Those in the know recommend the one at Pálac Flóra mall; but advise avoiding the Smíchov Mall outlet. The I.P. Pavlova tram stop has a hopping pizza window (Pizza Roma) and who can forget the overwhelming pizza smell in the pedestrian tunnel behind the National Museum thanks to Pizza Grosso? If you´ve got a hankering for something American, pop into the Little Caesar´s in the Tesco at Národní Třída. If you find yourself near the Budějovická metro stop; cross the street towards the hospital there and check out the pizza being sold from the trailer in the parking lot. Really. Odds are, you´ll have to stand in line.

I just went to the EINSTEIN pizzeria today.....what a mistake. The toppings were awful. Just not what I expected from a pizza. Also, the service was not nice or welcoming. This is the worst Pizzeria that I have been to in Prague. I normally go to Matylda, who make a lovely pepperoni, but they were closed. The guide above states that people do NOT highly reccomend. Well, I wish I read that before I went there. And the price was a scam for what I got. I thought that a name like 'Einstein' would mean something good......well they won't win a nobel prize for their pizza, that's for sure....

Zaama Zaama, Petrske Nam. Their nachos are just tortilla chips from the bag from a supermarket, totally salty and not tasty. Their pizza was a bit of a joke, I ordered one with prawns, got sandy vongole and pieces of cold calmari there! (plus some pieces of supermarket cocktail prawns). Hideous!

today I was in Arkady Pankrac and I needed to eat good lunch - there was Corleone, I said, okay let's try it. I ordered a vegetable entree, it was eatable, but the eggplant was not ripe and not cooked! tasted like rubber! then my fav Carbonara - fairly okay, the pasta was slightly overcooked, but some parts of it were okay.. they're doing some crazy stuff with the pasta, it seemed to me they mix different thickness.. carbonara was definetely better than at Andel, but it's not good enough for me ;) lots of people order pizzas, so next time, if ever, I will definetely try a pizza. PS. Andrea - i know Lucky Luciano, i enjoy it too. good food and okay prices. even though their carbonara is not satisfying me ;)

Hi, I have just tried Lucky Luciano in Prague 7 today and absolutely recommend the place. The food was delicious, service was fast and the prices are ok if you consider the portions.

Yesterday I went to Corleone at Andel. The place wasnt crowded but I sat at the table, 3 minutes passed and no one came to hand me the menu. 2 new guests came in, and they were approached by waiter first (!!!). I took my menu by myself, ridiculous but I wasnt discouraged yet. A waiter finally noticed me. I didn't want pizza - at the moment I am in search for perfect spaghetti carbonara, so I ordered it for a test. I also ordered a caraf of table white wine and a minestrone soup. The wine came, and while I know they don't give you a special one in carafs, I expected something fresher. The wine sucked bad. Then, a waitress came with my carbonara. I said that I ordered a soup too. The waitress did not understand this fact, because she kept on asking if I want the soup first. Obviously I wanted the soup first. The minestrone was watery and a bit tasteless. Nothing special. Then finally the carbonara came. I was pleased that they don't make it with cream, and they used speck and not bacon (which will never be guanciale anyway). But, the pasta was awfully overcooked. Awfully. I managed to eat it - I was hungry - but not everything. The waiter came asking if it was ok, I said that it was badly overcooked. He was sorry and wanted to offer me something to compensate but I wanted to get out, so I just asked for a check. In short, the service is bad, and they don't know how to cook pasta al dente (and they claim to be an italian restaurant). Maybe they're good at pizzas but I think I will never visit them again. Thanks for reading.
