Written by: Written by Nicole Malone

So it is finally the weekend! You´ve enjoyed a well-deserved lie-in but have missed breakfast…however it is now the perfect time for brunch. With the working week behind you, it is time to chill out, catch up with friends, and perhaps get over the night before.

If you want a casual and relaxed atmosphere, here are a few places which should be a perfect way to ease yourself into the day:

Fraktal (Šmeralova 1 Prague 7, www.fraktalbar.cz ) has a weekend brunch from 11am to 3:30pm. Known for its Breakfast Enchilada, it has a large brunch menu that ranges from 90CZK for a corn muffin and eggs to 175CZK for the Breakfast Burger. Orange Bar (Hastalská 15 Prague 1, www.orangebar.cz ) serves breakfast daily from 10am-12pm. With five breakfast options all under 100CZK and including coffee or tea, it is the perfect place to go to for a breakfast that won´t break the bank. Red Hot and Blues (Jakubská 12 Prague 1, click for web) has a weekend brunch from 9am-4pm serving American breakfast, English breakfast, French toast, omelettes, eggs to order, croissants, quiche and more. Prices range from 109-290CZK per meal.

Bohemia Bagel (www.bohemiabagel.cz ) has three Prague locations; Holešovice, Malá Strana and Old Town. Breakfasts here range from 25CZK for a bagel and butter to 179CZK for what is known as the Full Monty; two fried eggs, American bacon, sausages, baked beans, fried tomatoes, mushrooms and a mini bagel. If you have kids, the Bohemia Bagel in Old Town has a children´s corner to distract them while you wake up.

If you are looking for somewhere to escape the modern world, there is Café Louvre (Národní 22 Prague 1, www.cafelouvre.cz/en). With its Art Nouveau appearance and central location, it is fairly busy on the weekends. Breakfast starts at 9am on the weekends, 8am on weekdays. The prices are reasonable and it is possible to get something small or a complete meal which includes juice.

For a cozier atmosphere with moderate prices try Radost (Bělehradská 234/120 Prague 2, www.radostfx.cz). It has a weekend brunch that ends at 3pm. There is a large vegetarian menu, a few vegan options and some salmon options for any die-hard carnivores. For people who enjoy browsing the newspapers while brunching, The Globe (Pštrossova 6 Prague 1, www.globebookstore.cz ) has a selection of English newspapers available. Their weekend brunch runs from 9am to 3pm, and includes a large selection of meals that range up to 200CZK.

On the other side of the Vltava, there is Café Savoy (Vítězná 5 Prague 5, www.ambi.cz) which offers breakfast all day. It has a large menu available, with several full breakfast options that include drinks. The full breakfast options range from 145CZK for the continental breakfast to 385CZK for the French breakfast. Café Déjà vu (Olbrachtova 2006/9, Prague 4, www.deja-vu.cz/) also has a large brunch menu where you can order something small, or a complete breakfast. Prices range from 39CZK for a slice of marble cake, to 198CZK for a traditional English breakfast. For the health conscious there is also a Fit breakfast.

Vermeer Restaurant (U vodárny 2 Vinohrady, www.vermeerrestaurant.cz) serves a weekend brunch from 9am to 5pm. On the menu there are many favorite breakfast dishes like Eggs Benedict, French toast and Belgian waffles. Their English breakfast is 195CZK and the American version is 165CZK. For the really hungry order either the Vermeer breakfast I or II. And, for the truly famished, try the Sunday brunch at Universal (V jirchářích 6, Prague 1 www.universalrestaurant.cz). It is an all-you-can-eat buffet which starts at 11am and finishes at 2pm. Priced at 235CZK for adults and 80CZK for kids aged 7-12, it includes roasted meats, salads, pancakes, bread etc. If you want to add coffee/tea/hot chocolate it will cost 265CZK per adult.

For those who really want to treat themselves to a decadent weekend brunch there are several options. The Bellevue (Smetanovo nábř. 18 Prague 1, www.bellevuerestaurant.cz) offers a Sunday brunch which starts at 11am and end at 3pm. Priced at 990CZK per adult, 490CZK for kids aged 7-12, it is a four course meal with kids receiving a different meal. There is a complimentary glass of champagne and unlimited soft drinks.

Zlata Praha Restaurant (Nám. Curieových 43/5, www.zlatapraharestaurant.cz) is in the Hotel InterContinental and offers a Sunday brunch buffet style from 11am to 3pm. Also priced at 990CZK per person, it includes a welcome drink and soft drinks. For an additional 490CZK per person you can keep the champagne flowing throughout your entire meal. Kids aged 5-12 are half price and kids under 4 are free. There is also a children´s corner to keep them entertained, with a nanny to look after them so you can relax and enjoy your meal.

At the Radisson SAS (Štěpánská 40 Prague 1, www.prague.radissonsas.com) there is a Sunday brunch accompanied by live jazz music. Starting at noon, the buffet lasts until 3:30pm and includes one glass of sparkling wine, plus wine, beer, a non-alcoholic beverage, coffee or tea. It costs 1099CZK per adult, with children aged 6-12 half price and children under 6 free. The Marriot (V Celnici 8 Prague 1, click for web) offers a Sunday brunch priced at 895CZK per person. Unfortunately both Red Hot & Blues and Vermeer are closed now, so this list should be updated. There is also Universal, which does a pretty good and affordable brunch, but there must be a few other new places around . . .

Please don't listen to Charly and lmathens. The brunches at the Radisson and Intercontinental (and the Hilton at Nam Republiky) are absolutely fantastic. I've lived in Prague since 1993 and this list prepared here has good comments for those on a lower budget but also mentions the best in Prague. 1000Kc for all you can eat, fresh, qood quality sushi, scallops, roasts, lamb and even lobster is not "overpriced". The Inter-Conti has unlimited Champagne - NOT sekt - for 490Kc. It's a cheap Champagne but it is from France. If you can afford it you should be every Sunday at one of those three fantastic places

How could Jama's not be on the list??? Definitely the best weekend brunch in Prague...

I found this great bar called o`che`s in Lilliova street, where they do great lunches all for under 100kc including a gambrinus beer, tried all the rest and this place is unbeatable

I agree with lmathens... The tip list sounds like as if it had been compiled 10 years ago... tiring... Overpriced offers at the five star hotels or bad food and/or service at the American tourist/expats hangouts. Be more creative when you write articles like this. The ones that have been living here for many many years would like to hear better tips or none at all. I for my part do not know ANY good place for brunch in this town. Only place s that WERE good at a certain point of time... But, I haven't tried the Ambiente in Vodickova, which I will, thanks for the tip.

I discovered the Passepartout last year and since I am a regular! I love the food, simple and so tasteful, I love the setting and decoration, very cosy and refined and yes the staff makes the place unique! And always new stuff to discover there, so go and discover it!!

I've tried as well the Brunch at passe partout - the American one. good base, Fresh orange juice, eggs, bacons, kind of Sandwish, very good quality and quantity compared to Bohemian Bagel in Holesovice (another good reference for Sunday Brunch) Wifi connexion, nice service and smilly people. a MUST if you haven't tried yet

I'd also recommend Ambiente Pasta Caffe on Vodičkova for breakfast-brunch any day of the week.

If you live around Prague 4 you might want to try the Sunday brunch at Top hotel Praha near Chodov. 290CZK for a buffet, all you can eat. Great for families with kids.

So Imathens, you've slated every suggestion on this page without making a single useful suggestion yourself. Did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning or were you just born in a foul mood. I for one would like to thank the author and agree Fraktal and Savoy are perfectly decent venues and look forward to trying some of the other suggestions.

I was glad to see that Expats offered an article on brunch places, but this content and these suggestions aren't useful at all. Cafe Louvre is horrible, especially for breakfast food, the worst service and over-priced. Savoy is too expensive with bad service. Red Hot's food quality is a joke. Everyone knows Bohemian Bagel and it's a tired last resort. If you can suffer throught the sevice, Radost has decent food but the after-party stench fo smoke is sickening during brunch. The Globe is the biggest joke in Prague, with the lowest quality food (microwaved half-steaming-half-cold quiche that's DAYS old), with high prices aimed at tourists. And what non-guest wants to eat at the Marriott for 895CZK? Put some effort and thought in at least!

I have also tried the brunch at Passepartout. Really nice !!! Simple but good value, very pleasant atmosphere, easy access. And the staff are great!

I've also tried the brunch from Passepartout (www.passepartout.cz) : every sunday from 11am till 5pm. American, English or French plates and other dishes. One very good point : they also do animations from 2 to 5 on sundays for 4-8 years old kids (vegetable puppets, salt dough modeling...). Very cool atmosphere!!!
