Help Those in Need
this Christmas!

There's more to the Czech Republic than Prague!

Expats.cz has been in touch with an orphanage in Vysoká Pec, near Chomutov in the Krušný Mountains. They have 32 children ranging in age from 4-18 who live in a newly-constructed duplex house with 4 flats, each housing a "family group" consisting of 8 children and a caretaker. Each flat has 4 bedrooms for children, 5 bathrooms, a room for the caretaker, kitchen, living room, and laundry facilities.

This orphanage is one of the more fortunate ones, but no amount of quality facilities and loving staff can truly replace a family, especially at the holidays. The Expats.cz Angel Tree will give you the opportunity to ensure that the neediest children will have a happy Christmas.

If you wish to sponsor a child, please contact us and we'll send you the name of a child, their age, and their wishlist. Please purchase and wrap your gift, and bring it to the Expats.cz office NO LATER than Friday, December 15, 2006. We will be driving to Vysoká Pec on Wednesday, December 20 for their annual Christmas show and give out the presents. You are more than welcome to join us - please indicate in the email if you wish to come along, and we'll arrange a carpool. If you have any questions at all about the program, please let us know on the above address.

The orphanage is also in need of a computer, a printer, and bikes and ski equipment - donations of these items, new or used, would be very much appreciated. One last request, a very large one: the orphanage needs a van that can seat 9 - they live 7 km away from the nearest village, and the kids have to walk there for any activities. They currently have a regular car, but it seats only 4.

In addition to specific gifts for specific children, the home is also in need of various items. If you wish to contribute one or more of these items (either new or used in good working condition), please let us know! All books, etc should be in Czech unless otherwise indicated....

Due to overwhelming demand, we are looking into sponsoring more children at a home in Brno - details will be forthcoming, and those of you who contacted us regarding sponsoring a child but did not receive a child - hold tight, and as soon as I know more about Brno, I'll be in touch!
